The AI Institute for Societal Decision Making (AI-SDM) —  which brings together AI and social sciences researchers to develop human-centric AI for societal good — hosts student-led brainstorming discussion sessions. Our goal is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and generate ideas on how AI can help solve societal problems, particularly from an angle of decision-making.

We welcome Valerie Chen, Ph.D. Candidate, Machine Learning Department at Carnegie Mellon University who will discuss Human-AI Collaboration. —

Valerie Chen is a 5th year PhD student advised by Ameet Talwalkar. She is also a visiting researcher at NYU Center for Data Science, where she works with He He. Her research focuses on the principled design of human-AI teams, aiming to build interactive AI systems that enhance human capabilities and develop scalable evaluation methods for team setups. Valerie's work has been recognized with prestigious awards, including an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and a CMU Presidential Fellowship.
