Attend the 2025 3MT Championship 

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is an internationally recognized competition that challenges Ph.D. students to present a compelling oration on their thesis and its significance in just three minutes, in language that anyone can understand. In the 2025 3MT Championship, CMU Ph.D. students representing a variety of research areas take to the stage to discuss their thesis for a chance to win cash prizes. CMU leadership and alumni judge the competition and the audience has two opportunities to vote for their favorites:

  • People's Choice Award  → selected by the in-person audience;  and
  • Alumni Choice Award → selected by the virtual audience

3MT is not an exercise in trivializing or ‘dumbing-down’ research but requires students to consolidate their ideas, crystallize their research discoveries and capture the imagination of their audience. The 2025 3MT Championship will feature the 10 preliminary round winners as they compete for first, second and third place, as well as a live audience vote for People’s Choice and a live virtual vote for the Alumni Award.
