Many digital ecosystems rely on content supplied by independent contributors. In this talk, I’ll examine how a platform can allocate a limited budget to encourage valuable contributions when contributors’ costs are private and their content may overlap. I’ll first introduce the framework of compensation design, in which contributors independently decide whether to participate in response to an announced payment rule. I’ll then explain how this framework can guide the design of truthful budget-feasible mechanisms.
Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the CSD Speaking Skills Requirement
